fpo parts maintenanceWell it's that time of year again when we have lots of rain plus pollen from the trees getting in our pools causing you guessed it, Algae.

What do you need to protect your pool and what can you do to make it easy? These are questions that many people are interested in learning.

Fixing a pool that has algae in it, can be expensive and time consuming plus it is a pain in the rear end. We hope that just a little time spent on the front end with some preventative measures will help you before it's too late.

Swimming Pools can grow algae when there is food and conditions for algae to grow. The first thing we want to do is make sure we starve it of food, plus make the conditions difficult for it to grow.

Watch this video to see how to open your pool!

  • Make sure to keep any leaves or debris out of the pool as they end up rotting making food for algae and taking the strength away from the chlorine.
  • Once your water temperature is above 55 degrees and you have removed the cover, make sure the filter is running at peak performance.
  • Be sure to clean your filter by backwashing if sand, or cleaning the filter media if DE or Cartridge.
  • Clean all the baskets to insure they are not blocking the filter.
  • Have your pool water professionally tested at Pool and Spa Connection's water lab to check the water balance and sanitizer level.
  • Once your water has been tested and then balanced, it is very important to give your water a chlorine shock plus brush the pool to make sure that algae does not get a foothold.
  • Add a preventative maintenance dosage of Banish brand algaecide or Algae All 60 to make it difficult for Algae to grow.

With just a few preventative measures you can save yourself a big hassle and make your pool much easier to care for plus save your family money.

Please feel free to contact us at Pool and Spa Connection to ask us for help to make it easy to understand these steps. We welcome your question and look forward to it.

Thank you,

The Team at the Pool and Spa Connection!
