August Swimming Pool Tips

Wow! Is it Hot here in Greenville and Spartanburg South Carolina, with temps in the 100's! This time of year is a great time to cool off in a swimming pool that has nice clean crisp water in it!
This time of year the water can get very warm and sometimes even in the 90's. Now, more than ever you will really need to watch your pool water as the warmer water temps can rapidly consume chlorine. If you do not have enough chlorine in your pool, than problems can occur.
Chlorine levels in your pool need to be around 3ppm during the heat of summer as this gives you a buffer from the rapid depletion of the warmer water temperatures. Also pH needs to be be maintained in the correct range of 7.4 to 7.6 to allow the chlorine to work at peak strength!
You will want to brush your pool 2x a week to get any algae off the walls and stairs and then into suspension where the chlorine will help kill it. Also, it is very important to brush into the corners as algae likes to hide there.

You should follow a program of Chlorine, Shock once a week, 1lb per 10,000 gallons, and add a preventative Algaecide like Algae All 60 to help the chlorine kill the algae.
Lastly, a really good idea is to use a product like Strip Kwik to clean your filter whether it be sand, or cartridge and keep the filter running at peak efficiency.
If you follow these simple steps, you will have a clean, clear pool to cool off in during the Hazy, Lazy, Humid final days of Summer.
